Last time that Middlesbrough and West Ham met it ended with Middlesbrough winning 2-0. Stewart Downing had a great goal that he kicked through the keeper while Tuncay Sanli had his own shot at the net, and ended up putting it through. The first time Sunderland and Chelsea met up it was earlier in the season and Sunderland sadly was anhiliated by Chelsea. Nicolas Anelka certainly deserved the MVP first grabbing an easy shot past the keeper, and then again when Frank Lampard set up a cross that Anelka targeted to the goal. Alex had another goal, and Lampard got his own goal on Joe Cole's cross. Nicolas Anelka got his third goal as Malouda set up the shot and allowed him access, absolutely slaughtering Sunderland 5-0.

Last year, the first half was mostly unexciting, with Stephen Ireland and Ched Evens getting a couple of close shots, making Jussi Jaaskelainen work for the blocks, and then the second half started and Bolton seemed to come alive, when Gretar Steinsson laid out a cross for Ricardo Gardner to torpedo into the goal. Then the Wanderers again turned to teamwork and is was Gardner this time that set up the shot for Richard Dunne to put home.
