Hull were thrashed 4-1 by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time, while the Blues suffered the agony of a derby defeat to Aston Villa after Gabriel Agbonlahor's late winner.
Managers Phil Brown and Alex McLeish will be targeting a positive result here given their sides have made steady, if unspectacular, starts to the campaign, taking just four points from their opening five games.
Brown will be especially eager to turn the KC Stadium into a fortress this term, with the Tigers only success so far coming at home to Bolton.
While Birmingham have yet to pick up a point on their travels, McLeish will have taken heart from the way his side performed in narrow defeats at Manchester United and high-flying Spurs.
