Tottenham headed into their first game as underdogs against the highly touted team from Liverpool, but proved that they did not deserve to be overlooked. The team got strong play from new signing Basang and Benoit Assou-Ekotto in order to topple the stacked Liverpool side. They jumped out to a lead in the first half and then Basang scored the eventual winner after Steven Gerrard tied the game in the second half.
Hull City on the other hand came very close to snatching a well deserved point against Chelsea in their first game but had to bear the brunt of yet another late comeback from the Blues. The Tigers had taken a shock lead through Stephen Hunt in the first half but Didier Drogba grabbed the equalizer with a brilliant free kick before wrapping up the points late in injury time.
