Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill says he would never spend money the club does not have. Villa were close to breaking into the top four this season before their campaign tailed off.
Many feel Villa only need to bring in two or three new players to seriously threaten for a Champions League berth. But O'Neill will not overspend in Villa's quest to progress.
Youngster Rhys Williams has committed his international future to Australia. The 20-year-old defender, who enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Burnley this season, had a productive meeting with Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek this week.
Williams had made 10 appearances for Wales' Under-21s and was called up to the senior squad by John Toshack but did not feature.
